Grammatical and syntactic errors in undergraduate English essays within the Pakistani ESL context were examined. A mixed-method approach was employed, and a sample of 50 essays collected from second-year undergraduate students was analyzed using error analysis. Tense misuse, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences were identified as the most frequent error types. The study further highlights the significant influence of first language interference, limited grammatical awareness, and inadequate writing practice. The results suggest that explicit grammar instruction, continuous writing practice, and constructive feedback can significantly enhance students' grammatical competence and syntactic accuracy. The study provides pedagogical implications for improving ESL writing instruction.
